Animals
There are several different animals in this extrordinary grassland. Some birds are the Greater Rhea, a relative of the ostritch and the emu, the double collared finch, and firewood gatherer. There are also some larger animals such as the pampas cat and Geoffrey's cat. here is a description of a few animals.
Greater Rhea
This is a close relative of the African ostritch and the Australian emu. It grows to about 4.9 feet from tip of head to feet and 127 cm to 140 cm from beak to tail. The adults weigh an average from 44-60 lbs. They eat foliage, seeds, and fruits. Their plumage looks ragged and is gray or brown.
Geoffrey's cat/ocelot/gato
This animal is one of the smallest wildcats in the world, but don't be stupid and try to touch them unless they are your pet. It is one of the most survival cored animals there are be cause it is extremely adaptable. This little guy grows from 4 to 8 pounds. Their fur patterns are either yellow, silver, gray, or brown and all the shades in between. His fur is waterproof and hunts mostly only small rodents.
Pampas Fox
This guy can also be called Azara's fox or zorro. He is reddish brown on the outside and on the underside he is pale. He weighs 5.3 to 18 pounds and grows 51 to 80 centimeters in adulthood. It is nocturnal and is omnivorous. It will eat anything from fruit to lizards.
Burrowing Owl
This is the only owl that can burrow. It is long legged and diurnal. They eat small mammals, such as moles and voles, insects, such as grasshoppers and beetles, and various other types of animals, like amphibians and reptiles. They usually live in the desert and their mating season is early spring. The clutch size is 3-12 and the chicks can fly well at 6 weeks. Their plumage is spotted brown and sport white "eyebrows".
Pampas Cat
This is a feline that has not been studied a lot. There have been reports that they hunt rodents, wild fowl, and poultry. The body length is 46 to 75 centimeters and the tail is 23 to 29 centimeters. There are three kinds: the one up north, the one down south, and the one in between. The fur color can be: reddish brown, pale white at underparts, grey, brown, and stripes of brown and reddish brown. It is small and heavy set.
MigraTOry Birds
These birds are generally small and light, and feed on rodents, seed and other bits of food. Here is a short list of some birds, rare or common. If we did all of them, you would be sleeping at half way! Have fun researching them and seeing them on a trip!
