Plants
If you look at the word grassland, you wold have to assume their would be some grasses. However, not all of them are the kind on a lawn. And in Argentina, there are a lot of them because of the extremely rich soil. Such as Pampas grass. Here is a description of a few plants.
Pampas grass
This plant is really common pretty much everywhere. this plant looks like wheat, due to the same categorization as a grass. It is can be multicolored, and is amazingly versatile. That is why it is an invasive species anywhere else, and really a pest in California. Sandy loam is ideal for this plant, but it is not necessary. It is evergreen and can grow up to 3 meters.
Queen Palm
This plant grows in tropical to subtropical places. Its fruit is edible and is sought after many living creatures such as pampas fox. In some places it can be invasive as it attracts a significant amount of insect swarms. But if you live in the tropics, you know that happens anyway. It can grow to 15 meters and has pinnate (feather like) leaves.

cultivated plants
Corn/Maize
This plant has a special connection with South America. It has been used by the Incas to be fed only to royalty. It is a plant that we humans pretty much depend on. We feerd it to our animals, we grind it up for four, we eat it as either on the cob, in seperate kernels, leavened into corn bread, or pop it into popcorn. Its cultivated form reaches about 2.5 meters but the natural strains can go up to 12 meters.
Barley
This plant is a member of the grass framily. It is mainly used as a animal fodder and an ingredient for beer. The seeds are inside a shell, or the hull. It has been genetically modified that it now has no hull and is harvested more easily.
Soybeans
This plant is a legume native to Eastern Asia. It is widely grown, however, thanks to its hardy nature. It produces more protein than any other use in the field per acre. It has many uses including soymilk, soy sauce, and tofu.
